Wawa Wins Battle to Sell Alcohol in Hatboro

Wawa appeals ruling in Hatboro and wins. The convenient store was able to transfer a license to sell alcohol at their new store.

After an uphill battle, Hatboro’s Wawa now serves alcohol, reports Dino Ciliberti for the Patch.

Last year, the convenience store proposed plans to bring a liquor license from a Norristown business to their new location in Hatboro. The borough voted against the motion in a 5-2 vote. This came after the borough fought and lost against Wawa coming to the 412 S. York Road location.

Residents were concerned about public intoxication in a heavily residential area and the potential for minors to obtain alcohol.

However, Wawa challenged the ruling and the borough turned in favor of Wawa citing that a lengthy court battle would be expensive.

Officials from the company assure that similarly positioned stores in the area have had few to no issues. The added seating at the Hatboro location should also deter people from drinking in public. Twenty four Wawa stores in Pennsylvania and 100 across the country serve alcohol. Each location has security cameras and cards anyone purchasing alcohol regardless of age.

The Hatboro location now serves beer and wine. People with an idea may purchase single cans of beer, six packs, 12-packs, or mix and match.
