Tim Mancuso, an avid watch collector who moved to Philadelphia five years ago, is helping transform the region into a hotspot for watch enthusiasts and brands, writes Johnny Davis for Esquire.
And he believes it is working.
“Philadelphia has become the key watch city in the world, for brands and collectors,” he said. “That might sound ridiculous. But in the last four months, F.P. Journe, Moser, MB&F, and Ulysse Nardin have all come to Philly, specifically to meet up for private dinners.”
When Mancuso first moved to Philadelphia, he realized that, despite the high number of watch collectors, there were no meetups or events available for them. His watch collection, rivaled only by his wife Kate’s, inspired him to take action. So, he began organizing his own gatherings.
Through word of mouth, the meetups at his apartment quickly gained popularity, forcing him to find larger venues to accommodate the growing crowd.
Soon, watch CEOs and other industry players began attending as well, wanting to connect with their high-rolling collectors.
Most recently, Mancuso has been working on establishing the first Bucherer Watch Week in New York. For him, what began as a hobby has evolved into something much more.
“It’s the experience,” he said. “It’s the community.”
