‘Old Man Challenge’ by Extreme Fitness Gym Owner in Falls Goes Viral

Marty McLoughlin, founder and owner of Extreme Fitness on New Falls Road in Falls, went viral with a video of him doing the Old Man Challenge.

Marty McLoughlin, founder and owner of Extreme Fitness on New Falls Road in Falls, went viral with a video of a muscle mobility exercise called Old Man Challenge, writes JD Mullane for the Bucks County Courier Times.

The 20-second video of an eight-step exercise was posted on March 25, and has since recorded 1.6 million views while trending on Facebook and other social media sites.

“We’re just riding the lightning,” said McLoughlin.

McLoughlin decided to do the video after watching a similar demo online and wondering if he could do it.

His wife, Linda, recorded as she called out commands for him. The 55-year-old first squatted, then kneeled, then sat back on his heels. He moved one leg and the other in front of him, then crossed his legs, and finally rocked forward onto his knees and stood up.

Most of those who have seen the video are in the United States, and 80 percent are men aged between 45 and 55.

“In that age bracket, mobility is really a safe game, a good challenge over traditional weightlifting in a gym,” he said.
