Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia Announces Next President

The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia has appointed Anna Paulson to become its 12th President, effective on July 1, 2025.

The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia has been in search of its next president and recently announced the appointment of Anna Paulson to become its next executive leader, writes Michael S. Derby for Reuters.

Paulson currently serves as the director of research at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.

She will officially join the Philadelphia Fed’s top role on July 1.

Paulson will be the successor to Patrick Harker, who will be retiring on June 30 as a result of the central bank’s rules. This rule mandates regional Fed presidents retire at 65, or after 10 years of service if appointed after 55.

Paulson being 60 means she will be allowed to serve as Philadelphia Fed president for 10 years.

She has more than two decades of experience as an executive with the Chicago Fed, having joined in 2001. She was promoted to director of research — her current role — in 2019.

Anthony Ibargüen, chair of the Philadelphia Fed’s board of directors, praised Paulson’s “expansive technical expertise and mission-driven focus” in a statement announcing her selection.

Paulson’s appointment to the Philadelphia Fed comes at a time when the bank is facing major economic challenges. This has been further exacerbated by the trade tariffs.
