For the second year, Wawa leas in revenue as Pennsylvania's largest private company, outpacing Sheetz.

Wawa remains Pennsylvania’s largest private company, outdoing convenience store competitor Sheetz by $5 billion in revenue last year, writes Ryan Mulligan for Philadelphia Business Journal.

The Delaware County company placed 22nd on Forbes’ list of America’s largest private companies in 2024, generating $18.84 billion in revenue.

Sheetz placed No. 30 on the list, with an estimated $14 billion in revenue.

Wawa was one of six Philadelphia companies that made the Forbes list, but the only one that broke the top 100.

It actually fell two places from its No. 20 ranking last year, when it reported $18.87 billion in revenue.

Sheetz dropped three spots from last year’s No. 27 ranking, reporting similar revenue of $14 billion in 2023.

Wawa employs 47,000 workers compared to 25,000 for Sheetz, according to Forbes.

It ranks third in market share for Greater Philadelphia among stores that sell groceries.

Wawa comprises 10.98 percent of grocery sales in the region between April 1, 2023 and March 31, 2024, according to Food World’s annual market study.

The Delaware County convenience store chain has more recently pushed into Sheetz territory with a $300 million store expansion in Central Pennsylvania.
