Doylestown’s Michael Carroll traded his lacrosse stick for a football midway through high school, and now stands among the nation’s top players, writes Isabella DiAmore for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The five-star recruit played this season at IMG Academy and is ranked at No. 13 by 247Sports.

The senior, who transferred to Central Bucks East from La Salle College High School after two years,  received over 40 scholarship offers and ultimately decided to sign with Alabama. He will head to Tuscaloosa in January for early enrollment.

While many may consider him a late bloomer in football, his parents, Letitia and Mike Carroll, say he has a natural talent, coming from a family of athletes. His older brother Mike played linebacker at Penn State and his mother was a Michigan State basketball star.

His coaches have described his football potential as exceptional.

“He’s a bit of a savant,” said Mike Moosbrugger, Central Bucks East offensive line coach who still trains Carroll. “If I show him something and tell him something, he will pick it up almost instantly.”

“Whatever sport that man chose, he was going to be good at,” he added.
