While Chester County may not be as walkable as the city of Philadelphia, there are still some towns in the suburbs that have great walkable access to restaurants, activities, museums, trails, and public transportation, writes Sandy Smith for Philadelphia Magazine.

While it’s unlikely you’ll be able to get around completely car-free, Malvern is one of the top walkable towns where you can find everything you need within a short distance. Plus, a nice walk is just the thing after a day of work or if you need to run some quick errands.

Malvern has a regional rail station in the center of town. Its bus route comes and goes between Exton and King of Prussia.

There are many great places to shop and dine along King Street and Conestoga Road. Some of the most popular visit sites include the Battle of Paoli in 1777, also known as the Paoli Massacre, and the People’s Light theatre. The battle memorial is a few blocks south of King Street, and the theatre is located on Conestoga Road with plenty of things to do like a restaurant, a banquet hall, and arts education programs when there is not a play ongoing.

When visiting the residential areas of Malvern, there is a look and feel of a small country town. It’s one of the most sought-after places to live in the county with an average value of $745,445.

Coupling all the activities and living space, the town has earned a Walk Score of 71.
