After being destroyed by a fire in 2021, the historic Society Hill Hotel in Old City has been meticulously restored by its owners and is now back to its former glory, reports Bob Kelly for FOX 29.
The building was originally constructed in 1832 as a longshoremen’s house. It later became a Civil War recruiting station. Then in 1849, the building became an oyster bar, before it was finally turned into a hotel.
“While we were rebuilding this place, trying to bring it back to life, we wanted to infuse that history into it,” said Mike Cangi, who owns the hotel with Brian Linton. “So, we actually designed a lot of the menu around that history.”
As a result, the menu primarily focuses on seafood.
“We have fresh oysters every single day,” said Cangi. “We have a really beautiful brick oven that turns out this amazing sourdough pizza.”
The entire booking and check-in procedure for the hotel is done through an app, which provides guests with their room number and a code to access it.
