The Quakertown win over Pennridge the day before Thanksgiving 1970 continues to be the talk of the town 54 years later.

Fifty-four years later, the Quakertown win over Pennridge and the ensuing razzing of the opposing team’s starting quarterback are still the talk of the town, writes Tom Moore for the Bucks County Courier Times.

The day before the 1970 Thanksgiving Day game, while speaking in the Quakertown gym, Pennridge quarterback Jeff Hollenbach decided to throw down the gauntlet.

“I said, ‘We’re coming into Quakertown tomorrow (and) if Pennridge loses, you’re all invited to my house for Thanksgiving Day dinner,'” he recalled.

His words caused an uproar at the school ahead of the game, giving Quakertown players extra motivation to win.

And win they did. The game ended with a 66-28 victory at Alumni Field for Quakertown, the most points ever in school history.

Then the real fun started.

During dessert after Thanksgiving dinner, Hollenbach heard car horns and told his mother what he had said at Quakertown. She was not too happy with him.

“I remember taking out pretzels, soda, and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups (to the Quakertown students that stopped by),” he said. “They were giving us a hard time, which they deserved to.”
