Farmers in Bucks County have been hit hard by drought conditions, leaving them hoping for the much-needed relief of a rainy day, writes Greg Payne for FOX 29 Philadelphia.

“Every farmer in the area is definitely dealing with it, we do talk, it’s been a concern not just in the past couple of weeks, it’s been probably since July 4th it’s been a concern,” said Mark Hockman, Part Owner/Operator of Penn View Farm in Hilltown Township.

Yields this year are under half of what they should be, but more concerning are the wells that supply drinking water for the cattle.

“It’s concerning, it’s in the back of your mind that these wells might start going dry, therefore we may not have any water for the cows and the rest of the livestock to drink, at that point you don’t know what to do,” he said.

Like many others around him, Hockman has been checking the forecast in hopes of rain.

“It’s been over a month at least in Hilltown Township that we’ve even had a drop of rain so, that’s what’s getting concerning now, because this is the longest stretch that we’ve ever seen without rain,” he said.
