How dare you suggest my LinkedIn profile is not optimized! I had it reviewed!
Are you coachable? Are you open to new ideas? Open to listening and learning? Or are you shocked because I suggested you optimize your LinkedIn profile, and then you told me, “Somebody reviewed it”?
Attitude is everything! I love this quote by Charles Swindoll, and I usually change the word “church” to “place of worship” to make it more inclusive.
“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company…a [place of worship]….a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past…we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude…I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you…we are in charge of our attitudes.”
As a former K-12 teacher with nine Pennsylvania Department of Education certifications, I heard the Latin term tabula rasa throughout my classes and certification training.
What is tabula rasa? It means a blank slate. Tabula rasa means you are starting from scratch with no preconceived ideas in your head as if you just came out of the womb at birth.
As a LinkedIn trainer, I’m always eager to learn from my colleagues. I believe that understanding the ‘why’ behind things is key. That’s why my mind is always open to new ideas and perspectives.
As a doctoral student, I need to know WHY you suggest what you purport because that is my typical modus operandi (more Latin!).
Yes, I took Latin for three years in high school and think every day, one should exercise carpe diem when others want to share their subject matter expertise and knowledge.
LinkedIn is constantly changing, and I am thankful for Kevin Turner, who posts the latest and greatest updates on the LinkedIn platform. Follow him to stay current!
So why would a job seeker who has been out of work for over a year shut me down when I was trying to help and give free advice? Good question! As they say, I’m just SMH!
Why would someone who is employed or self-employed do the same?
They would not be a good fit for me as a client because they are not coachable and open to learning new ideas and hearing new perspectives.
Here is a Google Doc with a list of items for optimizing your profile and links that go along with it. If you want a helping hand and enjoy a collaborative approach, I invite you to reach out through the NEXT STEPS below. Your input and collaboration are highly valued in this process.
Perhaps some feel they’ve already mastered everything they need to know. If that’s you, congratulations! But for me, I’m still a work in progress and always learning. As the saying goes, ‘scientia potentia est’ – Knowledge is power!
