Check out their interview below to learn more about Melody.
Where are you from? I was born in Norfolk, Va. My father was military, and so was I so we traveled a lot on the East coast but most of my time growing up I was in some area of Virginia or another.
What is your educational background? I spent six years in the military. I have two military degrees, both in logistics.
What degree are you currently pursuing, and what are your plans after obtaining your degree? I am pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Paralegal Studies. I plan to further my degree and get a J.D. and work as a court clerk.
What was the best part of your educational journey? The best part of my educational journey has been in self-discovery. I was initially unsure of my interests and as I have progressed, I have found passion in legal research.
What do you enjoy about the legal profession? I enjoy the history of law. I enjoy discovering the ways it has evolved and the many ways it encompasses both new ways of thinking and respect for the original renderings.
What is your best skill related to the law? I am most skilled at keyword searches for case information. When the pool is just too large, I’m good at narrowing down the field with more concise and direct searches to find the specific cases needed for research.
What are your hobbies and interests? I enjoy hiking. I travel throughout the summer, finding every opportunity to get lost in the woods. I have hiked a few 14k peaks of Colorado and sections of the Appalachian trail. My goal is to hike the highest elevation in all fifty states.
Congratulations on all of your accomplishments and hard work on the law journal, Melody!
