Dan Hughes has been making Scrub Daddy content since leaving QVC.

Longtime QVC host Dan Hughes has stayed busy since his layoff from the West Chester-based television shopping network, writes Jeff Blumenthal for the Philadelphia Business Journal

Hughes was dismissed after 34 years with the home shopping channel. While the entire experience has been unexpected and unpleasant for him, Hughes was surprised by the reaction from viewers.

“The viewers seem to have been potentially even more upset at my being dismissed than I was,” he said.

His ventures since the layoff include becoming an author, returning to standup comedy, and coaching entrepreneurs. Meanwhile, he has been producing content for Scrub Daddy, one of the fastest-growing companies in the region.

Hughes said he received many job offers after being cut lose by QVC, but decided to join Scrub Daddy and he and the company CEO Aaron Krause became friends after the latter appeared on QVC and sold more than 45,000 of Scrub Daddy’s signature smiley face sponges in just under six minutes.

Hughes now hosts videos on social media platforms for Scrub Daddy, going by “Dr. Dirt” and “Scrub Daddy Dan” monikers as he promotes the company’s products.
