Two Philadelphia hotels made the Michelin Guide’s first full list of top accommodations nationwide and were awarded a “Key Hotel” designation in its new hotel rating system, write Eva Andersen and Casey Kuhn for CBS News Philadelphia.

Michelin introduced a new system where the best hotels are awarded one, two, or three keys. The rating mirrors its famed “star” system for restaurants.

The Guild House Hotel in Center City and The Rittenhouse Hotel in Rittenhouse Square were both awarded a “one key” rating out of three. Overall, 207 hotels in the country received one key, 70 were awarded two keys, and 16 got the highest distinction of three keys.

The Guild House Hotel on Locust Street is set in a historic building that was previously the home of the New Century Guild, an 1882 organization that supported women in the labor force. When he opened the hotel three years ago, owner Brennan Tomasetti honored the building’s history by naming each of its rooms after key members of the Guild.

Meanwhile, the luxury Rittenhouse Hotel has been a Philadelphia fixture since 1989. Among other things it offers excellent dining experiences and a tea room open to the public.
