PECO recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of its Green Region Open Space Program at Bartram’s Garden Pavilion in Philadelphia. The event recognized the 2024 grant recipients and highlighted two decades of environmental stewardship across southeastern Pennsylvania.

Since its launch in 2004 in partnership with Natural Lands, the program has awarded over $3 million in grants to more than 400 projects focused on preserving open spaces, enhancing recreational areas, and promoting sustainability. This year, PECO awarded $160,000 in grants to 22 deserving green space projects across six counties, continuing its commitment to environmental protection and community investment.

In addition to celebrating this year’s grant recipients, PECO announced a special 20th anniversary bonus grant of $50,000, which can be awarded as a one-time grant to a single project or divided among multiple projects that aligns with PECO’s Path to Clean goals, which aim to promote a cleaner energy future while ensuring equitable access to green spaces for all residents of the Greater Philadelphia region.

This additional funding opportunity encourages municipalities, townships, and eligible organizations to submit their Path to Clean project and the innovative steps they are taking to promote a cleaner and brighter future. Eligible projects under this bonus round include energy-efficient lighting installations, weatherization efforts, solar panel installations, energy audits, and more.

Applications for this bonus round grant can be submitted through Natural Lands between now and Thursday, Oct. 24.
