Lincoln University President to Serve as Vice Chair of Pennsylvania’s New Higher Education Board

Brenda Allen, president of Lincoln University, will be vice chair of a new higher education board tasked with charting a new vision for higher education in the state.

Brenda Allen, president of Lincoln University, will serve as vice chair of Pennsylvania’s new higher education board tasked with creating a strategic plan and improving coordination between the many public and private colleges in the state, writes Susan Snyder for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The board will also work on improving access and affordability and ensure colleges are offering the proper training for workforce needs.

In addition to college presidents, the 21-member board includes representatives from business and labor, legislators, students, and faculty.

The new board represents “an exciting new chapter” for the state’s colleges and universities, said Kate Shaw, deputy secretary and commissioner for Postsecondary and Higher Education, that “will, for the first time in Pennsylvania’s history, bring all sectors of higher education together to chart a bold new vision for higher education and provide the capacity and support needed to make this vision a reality.”

The board, led by Cynthia Shapira, a higher education and nonprofit consultant and the chair of the board of governors for the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, will likely hold its first meeting before the end of this month.
