The bridge between New Hope and Lambertville is currently in the midst of construction, reports Hank Flynn for Good Day Uncut at FOX 29 Philadelphia.
“We’re in the next to last stage,” said Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission Spokesperson Joel Donnelly. “This project began earlier this year and we expect it to end in the fall.”
The project includes a complete rehabilitation of the bridge.
“First time the bridge is being rehabilitated in 20 years,” said Donnelly. “Usually when we rehabilitate bridges, we close them for an extended period of time completely, but in this particular case, for a two-lane bridge, we’re actually able to, with this contractor, have one lane for vehicular traffic going across the bridge for the duration of the project.”
And that is not the only unique thing about the New Hope-Lambertville bridge rehabilitation.
Additionally, “we’re replacing the bridge walkway on the bridge, and normally in those cases, we’d have to shut down the walkway completely,” added Donnelly, “but they’ve managed to stage this project in a manner where we can have a temporary walkway.”
