Jerry Fetter, who teaches science, started volunteering with Boomer last year. The therapy dog may only have three legs, but he brings endless joy to patients and staff.

Boomer’s origin story extends far beyond Bucks County. The furry friend was rescued from Georgia when he was found with a chain wrapped around his leg. He ended up having to get the chained leg amputated.

“He gets around just fine,” said Fetter. “He thinks he has four legs.”

Boomer is certified through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs. After getting Boomer certified, Fetter found out about Doylestown Hospital’s therapy dog program.

Boomer is just one of many therapy dogs who volunteer with the hospital.

“It’s a wonderful thing to have here at Doylestown Hospital,” says patient Bill Habib. “…a dog that comes to cheer you up, because the days can be really long and tedious.”

“It’s really been one of the best experiences that I’ve been involved in,” said Fetter.
