The 77th Little League Baseball World Series has kicked off in Williamsport, with Pennsylvania once again in the spotlight as Bucks County’s Council Rock Newtown Little League battles for national glory, writes Patrick Berkery for The Keystone Newsroom.

Representing the Mid-Atlantic region, Council Rock Newtown is the fourth Pennsylvania team in as many years to earn a coveted spot in the tournament.

Their first game, set for Thursday at 7 PM against the Southwest champions from Boerne, Texas, will be broadcast live on ESPN.

This matchup is crucial as the team looks to advance in a tournament that has long been a showcase of young talent and fierce competition.

Pennsylvania’s legacy in the Little League World Series is storied, with four championship titles under its belt.

The state’s teams have produced memorable moments, including Morrisville’s 1955 walk-off home run that clinched the title and Levittown’s dominant no-hitter in 1960.

While no Pennsylvania Little League World Series participant has yet made it to the major leagues, this year’s squad is poised to make its mark.
