Bucks County Community College Announces Call for Annual Bucks County Poet Laureate Entries
Bucks County Community College recently announced the final call for entries for the 2024 Bucks County Poet Laureate competition, writes Jeff Werner for the Patch.
The postmark deadline for submission is September 13.
The annual program, which is currently in its 48th year, is one of the oldest in the country. It also organizes a High School Poet Contest every spring.
The poet who wins the competition will be rewarded with a $500 honorarium and a plaque from the Bucks County Commissioners, as well as a reading at Bucks County Community College with the previous year’s laureate, Tara Tamburello.
The final judge for the 2024 competition will be Kasey Jueds. Her first book, Keeper, won the Agnes Lynch Starrett Prize from the University of Pittsburgh Press. It was published by Pitt in 2013. Her second book, The Thicket, was published in 2021.
Thomas Devaney will serve as the preliminary judge. Devaney is a Philadelphia poet, facilitator, and educator. He is a Pew Fellow in the Arts who focuses on city building and community engagement.
To participate in the contest, entrants have to be Bucks County residents aged 18 years or older.
