Back in April 2024, Philadelphia had seen a 34 percent fewer homicides than the same time period the previous year.
Now in the beginning of July, the homicide rate continues to be at a lower rate, writes Victor Fiorillo for Philadelphia Magazine.
Philadelphia has seen about 131 homicides this year, according to City of Philadelphia Office Of The Controller.
While it remains 131 too many, it represents a 39 percent reduction from this time like 2023. This is also a 50 percent decrease compared to 2022, and a 52 percent decrease from 2021.
Beyond the homicide rate, Philadelphia has also seen positive trends in terms of robberies by gun and overall shooting victims. Both are down by 42 percent up to this point in the year.
Philly has also seen a 39 percent decrease in the number of stolen cars throughout the city.
