Dr. Domenick Bucci, the Vice President of Medical Management and Medical Policy at Independence Blue Cross, has been elected the 163rd president of the Philadelphia County Medical Society (PCMS).

Prior to his new role, Dr. Bucci served on the PCMS Board of Directors and Executive Committee as treasurer.

“I’m grateful for this opportunity and look forward to working more closely with all my colleagues at the PCMS to address some of the current challenges we are facing in healthcare,” said Dr. Bucci. “I am especially interested in focusing on how we can communicate better across the whole healthcare system. I also want to address important issues such as the high cost of prescription drugs, mental health parity, prior authorization, and the administrative work overload.”

Dr. Bucci is a graduate of Ross University School of Medicine and completed his medical residency at St. Francis Medical Center. He has worked and held leadership roles at several hospitals throughout the Philadelphia region. He has also served as vice president and medical director for Medecision, a medical software company, and was a nationwide physician surveyor of hospitals with the Joint Commission. In 2000, Dr. Bucci made a transition in his career and joined IBX, where he leads utilization management and medical and claims payment policy work.

As member of several professional medical societies, Dr. Bucci strives to enhance the provider and patient experience. He presently serves as Delegate to the Pennsylvania Medical Society House of Delegates and the American Medical Association House of Delegates.

The PCMS is one of the oldest county medical societies in the country, having been established in 1849. It represents 3,200 physicians and medical students.
