Patriots Park is taking shape at the corner of Court and Mercer streets in Newtown, writes Jeff Werner for The Patch.

Slated for completion by fall, this park will offer a serene retreat.

Designed by NAM Planning & Design, LLC, the park features walking paths and period landscaping that reflect the style of Colonial-era gardens.

These gardens will include plants native to the original 13 Colonies and those brought from England.

The park commemorates a Revolutionary War skirmish that occurred on this site over 250 years ago.

Gasper Landscape Design & Construction aims to complete the park by mid-July, with the community invited to help plant perennial beds in the fall.

Funding for Patriots Park comes from a Small Communities Grant, a PECO Green Regions grant, and private donations via the Newtown Historic Association.

This project follows township official Julia Woldorf’s successful Newtown Commons Park, which won the Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence.
