The Mill Race Inn, a historic site dating back to 1787, is set for a major transformation after years of abandonment, writes JD Mullane for the Bucks County Courier Times.

Costigan Builders of Lower Makefield plans to redevelop the property at 183 Buck Road into a commercial space surrounded by 33 upscale condos.

The mill’s original stone walls have stood since the year the Constitution was adopted. They will be preserved and integrated into the new development.

The redevelopment plan has been in progress for over three years. It recently got the green light from the Northampton Township Planning Commission

The Mill Race Inn was heavily damaged by Hurricane Floyd in 1999 and the 2.48-acre property has remained vacant since and was condemned due to its deteriorating condition.

Costigan’s plan includes constructing three-story condos, each with garage space to elevate units out of the flood zone.

This design aims to prevent future flooding issues, aided by the removal of a creek dam that previously caused significant water damage.
