Longwood Gardens Introduces Its Newly Reimagined Idea Garden
Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square is busy preparing for the grand debut of Longwood Reimagined on Nov. 22, writes Katie Mobley for the Longwood Gardens Blog.
Ahead of the big date, the popular attraction introduced its newly reimagined Idea Garden and opened it for visitors to enjoy. The garden is on the western edge of Longwood’s formal gardens and boasts dramatic views of the soon-to-come West Conservatory.
The new iteration is both beautiful and educational and showcases a variety of approaches to gardening and design. The Idea Garden uses plant varieties that can be reliably grown by mid-Atlantic region home gardeners.
It features five unique garden spaces, such as the Ornamental Kitchen Garden. This reimagined space offers more pathways along with display areas dedicated to annuals, perennials, vegetables, fruits, and much more.
The Annual Corridor features an ever-changing palette of color thanks to its tropical, hardy, and flowering plants, while the Perennial Border offers a curated variety of herbaceous sun- and shade-loving perennials.
Meanwhile, the Combination Garden is a dynamic space used to showcase interesting and creative botanical combinations.
There is also the seasonal Student Exhibition Garden, designed and maintained by students from Longwood’s two-year Professional Horticulture Program.
