Dad Jokes Built Delaware County Native Dave Ogleton’s TikTok Career
Delaware County native Dave “FitDad” Ogleton knows how to get his 3 million+ followers on TikTok to laugh and cringe at the same time, writes Earl Hopkins for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Ogleton is the “King of Dad Jokes.”
The fathers laugh. The kids are slightly embarrassed.
Ogleton produces clever puns and rapid-fire quips. He started sharing his jokes with the world in 2020 after the pandemic shifted his now-six children from in-person to virtual classrooms.
The 39-year-old went to social media to break up the quarantine monotony, uploading skits and gags as an audience started to build around his dad jokes.
“It was something for us as a family to do. It was fun and other people started finding it funny,” he said. “Deep down, I always wanted to do something in entertainment, so when things started to pop off I thought, ‘I can turn this into a business.’ ”
With his multi-million following on TikTok and Instagram, Ogleton has been able to partner with Disney+, Pepsi, Netflix, and Proctor & Gamble.
His kids, ages 3 to 15, are mostly OK with his dad joke social media persona.
“The high school and middle school-aged ones, they’re like, ‘Alright, that’s enough dad.’”
