A Philly-Themed Restaurant in Turkey Features Cheesesteaks and Memorabilia of Former Sixer Furkan Korkmaz
A restaurant in Istanbul, Turkey, named Philly’s sells various kinds of cheesesteaks and has Philadelphia sports gear hanging on its walls.
One of them is a jersey of former Philadelphia 76ers guard, Furkan Korkmaz, writes Gabriela Carroll for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Korkmaz, who is from Istanbul, had been a member of the Sixers since 2017 before he was traded to the Indiana Pacers during this past February’s NBA trade deadline. The Pacers subsequently waived Korkmaz shortly afterward.
He is one of only five active Turkish NBA players, and the third Turkish player in NBA history to play for the Sixers.
At Philly’s, customers can enjoy five types of cheesesteaks, in addition to other American-style dishes like loaded fries, onion rings, and mozzarella cheese bites.
Philly’s adds to a growing list of Philly-themed restaurants that have popped up across the world.
It joins the likes of Nihonbashi Philly in Tokyo, Japan; Passyunk Avenue in London; and Phat Phillys in New Zealand.
All of them serve cheesesteaks and feature Philly memorabilia.
