Penn Community Bank, the largest independent mutual bank in eastern Pennsylvania, is proud to continue its support of efforts to combat food insecurity in the region with a $10,000 contribution to Garden of Health.

The North Wales-based nonprofit partners with over 60 hunger relief agencies in Montgomery County and works with 2 large organizations in Bucks County to distribute food, including eggs, meat, dairy, produce, and shelf-stable items.

The funding will assist the organization’s warehouse location as well as its food production work at its farm property in Hatfield. In 2023, its first year, the farm produced over 10,000 pounds of food with the help of more than 550 volunteers — including dozens from Penn Community Bank as part of its Day of Service.

“A recent Gallup Poll showed that in 2023 26 percent — or one in four — Americans are struggling to put food on their table. That is up from 10 percent in 2021,” said Carol Bauer, Founder of Garden of Health. “A donation of $5 allows us to purchase 100 pounds of fresh produce. We can bring in a full tractor-trailer of shelf-stable food for $700. We are very grateful for the continued support of Penn Community Bank both financially and through volunteering. Their donation will help us to continue to provide food to 65 hunger relief agencies in Montgomery County with staples like milk, eggs, and fresh produce.”
