Maximize Your LinkedIn Impact: The Essential Guide to Securing Powerful Recommendations
How many recommendations should you aim to have on LinkedIn? Get as many as you can! Testimonials are social proof and evidence of public recognition.
However, you must give and receive recommendations to maintain a balanced profile.
For those actively seeking employment, recruiters may look for a specific number of endorsements on a candidate’s profile.
Individuals currently in a job should aim to get endorsements from their managers or peers, especially during potential transitions like company restructurings or layoffs.
Managers are encouraged to proactively write endorsements for their team members as a gesture of appreciation.
Nonprofit leaders should consider publicly endorsing volunteers on LinkedIn to formally recognize their efforts, providing a more impactful acknowledgment than a private thank you.
Entrepreneurs and small business owners need to collect endorsements and testimonials from clients who are satisfied with their services.
I am guilty and have neglected to ask for recommendations from clients or audiences at my speaking events. (Picture the emoji of a woman shrugging with her palms up—that’s me!)
Have my articles resonated with you, or have you learned something new?
So, if you feel compelled to write an endorsement for me, I would be chuffed and oober excited, and you would make my Fri-yay, but there’s a catch! We have to be connected!
Only first-level, direct connections can write or receive recommendations.
When drafting a recommendation, start with a compelling first sentence to grab attention.
Endorsements are displayed in the order they are received on your profile, and this arrangement cannot be changed.
If you’re seeking an endorsement, consider preparing a draft for the endorser to edit. This draft will help ensure the endorsement emphasizes the qualities you wish to highlight.
Consider providing an instructional guide for those unfamiliar with LinkedIn’s recommendation process.
Ready for a challenge? Why not set a goal to write a few endorsements this week?
