Goodnoe Elementary’s Gifted Support Teacher is in the Race for America’s Best Teacher

Megan Benzio, a Goodnoe Elementary School gifted support teacher, is in the quarter-final round of the nationwide competition.

Megan Benzio, a Goodnoe Elementary School gifted support teacher, is in the quarter-final round of the nationwide competition to crown “America’s Best Teacher,” writes Jeff Werner for the Patch.

The competition is sponsored by Reader’s Digest.

Benzio now needs the support of the local community to make it into the next round and hopefully take the top spot in the end.

The winner is determined based on how many online votes participants can get in the next three weeks. The quarter-final round started on May 6 at noon and will end on May 16. The votes will reset and the winner will then advance to the semi-final round, followed by the final round.

The public can vote once per day for free. Votes are verified using a Facebook account. Additional votes are granted with donations to Teach for America.

“My life’s mission is to change the lives of kids and to get them to fall in love with learning,” said Benzio. “We have a lot of fun. We laugh a lot. I want the students to know that they are loved and they are cared for.”
