Fred Astaire Dance Studio Opens in Newtown Township by Ukrainian Dance Champs

Husband-and-wife duo Roman Doroshenko and Iryna Savushkina recently opened the Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Newtown Township, writes JD Mullane for the Bucks County Courier Times.

The two dance champs from Ukraine previously worked for the franchise’s Doylestown location before they decided to open their studio at 11 Penn’s Trail.

“We like this area,” said Roman. “We really didn’t want to move somewhere else, like Miami.”

The couple are hoping to attract people who may want to learn to waltz or tango as well as those who prefer movements that are more refined than the group dancing often to be seen at wedding receptions.

“You look better, you feel better,” said Roman.

Currently, the most popular requests are salsa, swing, waltz, and foxtrot.

“And Argentinian Tango,” said Roman. “People really like that one.”

The couple also has a message for people who are too shy to dance because they believe they have “two left feet.”

“That’s the best reason to start lessons,” said Iryna. “Two left feet are our favorite students. They come with left feet, and go from here with a right foot and left foot.”
