Kennett Square Restaurant Has One of the Best Mushroom Dishes in America
Everyone in Chester County knows that Kennett Square is the Mushroom Capital of the World, so it’s no surprise that it has one of the best mushroom dishes in America, writes Mary K. Cahill for Mashed.
Out of a list of 11 dishes in the nation, this Kennett Square restaurant landed at No. 4 for its Roasted Mushroom Soup.
Since 2011, Portabellos of Kennett Square at 108 East State Street has been providing residents and customers with delicious, Kennett-grown mushroom dishes. Their Roasted Mushroom Soup utilizes Stinson’s Farm mushrooms, Madeira wine, and fried shallots to give the soup that edge that restaurant-goers crave.
About 65 percent of America’s mushrooms are grown in Kennett Square. Additionally, there is a mushroom festival held every year that generates over 100,000 visitors to enjoy every fungi available.
“Wow! The soup was creamy, had a rich earthy and peppery flavor, was filled with super tender mushrooms and topped with crisp scallions,” wrote a reviewer on Yelp.
Tripadvisor also wrote, “I’ve had about every mushroom soup in Kennett Square. This one was not just better, it was different. Hard to put my finger on it, but it was not the ordinary creamy soup.”
