Eastern University now offers a Bachelor’s degree in Health & Physical Education. This program equips graduates with the knowledge and resources they need for careers teaching lifelong habits of physical activity and healthy living to students from preschool to 12th grade.

The degree program offers theory courses merged with hands-on teaching assistant experience in various settings. Through the knowledge and dedication of expert faculty, as well as a curriculum built around Eastern’s core values of Faith, Reason, and Justice, students receive a well-rounded education that prepares them for lives of impact.

“I am thrilled about the addition of this program to the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences,” said Susan Edgar-Smith, Dean of the College. “The curriculum goes beyond just technical knowledge in the field and incorporates both hands-on practice and ethics. We are equipping students who will look at education holistically and be prepared to truly impact lives for the better in their daily work.”

Students can complete the Bachelor’s in Health & Physical Education in three to four years and have the option of adding a Master of Education that can be completed in only one extra year. This structure allows students to receive top-tier education time-efficiently so they can kick-start their careers.

The health and physical education field requires creativity and innovation as graduates develop curricula that will engage students of diverse backgrounds and learning abilities. Graduates can work in schools, community centers, healthcare facilities, and more, allowing them to engage with and impact the lives of people of all ages.

“The impact of a degree in health and physical education goes beyond the walls of a classroom,” said Edgar-Smith. “Education in this area influences families and communities to adopt healthy, life-changing habits and makes the world a healthier, happier place.”
