CHOP Pays $24.75M For Grays Ferry Property, Further Expanding Its Philadelphia Footprint

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is further expanding its footprint across Philadelphia.

Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia recently purchased a 3.2-acre property in Grays Ferry for $24.75 million in its latest effort to expand its Philadelphia footprint, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal

As a property zoned by CMX-3, it allows for a range of commercial development.

CHOP’s purchase of the site comes as it undergoes a development boom that is expected to total $3.4 billion.

In a statement, CHOP said it is “exploring options for use of the property concurrent with our mission of providing high-quality care to patient families and collaborative work environments for our employees.”

The Grays Ferry site is located about a mile east from its flagship 567-bed pediatric hospital on Civic Center Boulevard in West Philadelphia and a mile south of CHOP’s 22-story Roberts Center for Pediatric Research.

Next door to the Roberts Center, CHOP is developing a 14-story, 350,000-square-foot Schuylkill Avenue Research Building, expected to open next year. 

The institution’s largest ongoing building project is a 1.3-million-square-foot patient tower set to open its main campus in 2028.
