A Delaware County hospital made a national list for providing the best maternity care.

Eleven Philadelphia-area hospitals, including one from Delaware County, received U.S. News & World Report’s top “high performance” rating for the country’s top hospitals for providing the best maternity care, writes John George for Philadelphia Business Journal.

Riddle Hospital in Media made the top list from a U.S. News evaluation of 680 hospitals nationwide that offer labor and delivery services.

“This is a tremendous honor for the work of our doctors, nurses, and support staff at Paoli Hospital and Riddle Hospital,” said Dr. Joseph Gobern, chairman of obstetrics and gynecology at Main Line Health. “We can also take special pride that these rankings reflect our efforts to narrow the gap in disparities that exist nationwide for birthing people from various racial and ethnic groups.”

The high-performing designation went to 311 hospitals across the country.

Locally, 11 hospitals received the designation. They are:

Main Line Health’s Riddle and Paoli hospitals;

Jefferson Health’s Abington Hospital and Stratford, Cherry Hill, and Washington Township hospitals in South Jersey;

Virtua Health’s Mount Holly, Our Lady of Lourdes and Voorhees hospitals;

Einstein Medical Center Montgomery; and

Cooper University Hospital, Camden.

Penn Medicine opted out, believing the rankings don’t account for services increasingly happening outside of hospitals.
