United Way of Bucks County is shedding light on the unique struggles faced by people who are income-constrained and employed, writes David Hut for Levittown Now.

About twenty-seven percent of Bucks County residents fall under the acronym ALICE, which stands for “Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed.”

“They earn above the federal poverty income guidelines, which deems them unqualified to access many anti-poverty agency programs,” said social worker and impact services manager at United Way of Bucks County Nikki Farrior.

Bucks County Commissioners recently designated March as ALICE Awareness Month. In honor of this month, United Way of Bucks County will release video testimonials from households that fall under the ALICE label.

Through the non-profit’s LIFT United program, an initiative in collaboration with Penn Community Bank, the County of Bucks, and Credit Counseling Center, provides financial coaching.

One of the recipients of the program, also featured in the testimonial, received assistance with a down payment and used car loan.
