Bucks County State Senator Steve Santarsiero has proposed new legislation aimed at fostering sustainable energy development in the state, writes Jeff Werner for The Patch.
This initiative named the Pennsylvania Reliable Energy Sustainability Standard (PRESS), follows Governor Shapiro’s recent ambitious energy plans.
PRESS is designed to update and expand the Alternative Energy Portfolio Standards by including nuclear energy, fusion, and cleaner natural gas options.
With goals to increase Tier I clean and renewable energy to 35 percent by 2035, raise Tier II targets to 10 percent and introduce a new Tier III for alternative energy sources at a 5 percent target, PRESS seeks to ensure the sustainability of Pennsylvania’s energy sector.
It also aims to support the existing nuclear energy facilities. This legislation could potentially bring $5.1 billion in direct investment by 2035, generate thousands of jobs, reduce utility bills, and significantly cut carbon emissions.
