Four Philadelphians have made the list of 58 Black investors who are changing the venture capital industry by focusing on funding diverse startup founders, writes Vishal Persaud for Business Insider.

William Crowder, co-founder and managing partner of Aperture Venture Capital, has spent more than 10 years investing in diverse founders before co-founding his firm in 2021. During his time at Dreamit Ventures, a Philadelphia-based pre-seed accelerator, he was in charge of the partnership between Dreamit and Comcast, which aimed to invest in founders of color.

The Plain Sight Capital co-founders Sylvester Mobley and Alex King, both Philadelphia residents, launched their firm in 2021 to bring more equity to the venture capital industry. The firm places underrepresented people in positions that are more influential as they control the flow of capital.

Camelback Ventures founder Aaron Walker started his firm 9 years ago after he spent years teaching as a ninth-grade English teacher in West Philadelphia. Walker also worked as a portfolio director for the Fund for Public Schools in New York City. His firm has so far invested around $5 million in over 100 companies that are led by underrepresented startup founders.
