One of Frenchtown’s most historic buildings is now home to Finnbar, a new dining experience with several unique partnerships, writes Chris Fry for the Jersey Digs.

The historic structure perfectly nestled along the banks of the Delaware River dates to the early 19th century. It originally served as the Railroad House and was home to the Frenchtown Inn for decades before it closed for good in 2022.

The building has been fully renovated for its latest tenant. The bones of the structure were left untouched, while a long, restored wooden bar and dining rooms with gorgeous views of the Delaware River were added.

Cal Peternell, a former chef of Alice Water’s influential Chez Panisse eatery in Berkeley, California, is in charge of Finnbar’s kitchen.

The menu, which changes daily depending on availability, features seasonal and locally sourced Italian and Mediterranean dishes. The drinks menu offers a nice selection of cocktails, local beers, and wines.

“The food will be casual and beautiful, surprising yet not unfamiliar, with options for snacking and drinks, eating a quick meal at the bar, having multi-course celebrations with a tableful of friends,” said Peternell.
