The nonprofit facilitates the connection between local athletes with disabilities and mainstream student-athletes.

Boyle, whose brother Gavin was born with Down’s syndrome, started volunteering two years ago, after witnessing a truly poignant moment.

“A senior with disabilities, Megan Bissol, would come to all our games and was a team manager,” Boyle recalled. “On Senior Night, she dressed in uniform and was able to play. When she scored, the crowd went crazy.”

The scene made her tear up and imagine how much her brother, also an athlete, would enjoy hearing a crowd cheering for him like that.

Through Athletes Helping Athletes, Boyle found she could make an impact. She volunteers at special events and also works with honorary captains hosted by the school.

While she was injured, she would “walk them onto the court, introduce everyone, and sit with them during the game. I really wanted to make sure they were comfortable and enjoying themselves.”
