Amma’s South Indian Cuisine Coming to Newtown
Amma’s South Indian Cuisine, an upscale restaurant that got its start in South Jersey, is expanding into Bucks County with a Newtown Township location, writes Michele Haddon for the Bucks County Courier Times.
At a meeting last month, the township board of supervisors approved a conditional use application for the eatery to open at Goodnoe’s Corner in the space that was previously occupied by Zoe’s Kitchen.
This will be Amma’s fourth location. The restaurant is currently operating one location in Voorhees, New Jersey, and two in Philadelphia.
During the meeting, Amma’s co-owners Balakrishnan Duraisamy and Sathish Varadhan outlined plans for the restaurant, which will have 72 indoor dining seats and 30 more seats on an existing outdoor patio. The owners have no plans to apply for a liquor license.
Pending permits, it will most likely take a few months to open the doors on the new establishment.
Amma’s serves traditional regional dishes made using recipes passed down through the generations. The menu includes dishes such as Masala Dosa, crisp rice and lentil crepes stuffed with a potato filling, and Kothu Parotta, a shredded Indian flatbread with assorted toppings.
