A West Grove family has one holiday wish: to find a skilled, in-home nurse who would enable them to bring their baby boy home for Christmas, writes Richard Gaw for the Chester County Press.

Elizabeth Lambert gave birth to twin boys, Oliver and Tate, on June 9 at Chester County Hospital. The twins were born prematurely, but Oliver was able to return home after a six-week stay in the NICU.

Tate, however, had a slew of complications. He was transferred to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia where it was determined that he has PURA syndrome, an extremely rare genetic disorder.

Lambert and her husband, Greg, have taken training classes at CHOP on how to care for trachea and monitor respiratory devices required by their son. But they cannot bring Tate home until they have an in-home nurse.

“Greg and I are now trained to care for Tate, but he needs 24-hour eyes on him, so if we’re caring for him as his parents and his medical caretakers, we at least need to get sleep,” said Lambert.

They have been working with BAYADA Home Health Care in Downingtown to find a nurse, but so far they have had no luck.

“We get some smiles from him sometimes. When he comes home, we will be able to celebrate what both boys can do,” she said.
