A date is set for the opening of iconic grocery chain Wegmans in Yardley, its second location in Bucks County, writes Emma Dooling for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The 88,000-square-foot store will debut on March 20 in the Prickett Preserve Shopping Center, smaller than the average 100,000-square-foot store.
The decrease in size is part of the chain’s overall plan to gravitate to a smaller footprint, according to store manager Bill Platt.
Covering the ground of the store will be a 7,100 square foot produce section, a 5,300 square foot beer and wine area, a 9,500 square foot prepared food section, and a 156-seat café.
The Yardley location will also offer a “sushi pod,” which includes 25 different varieties of sushi and poke bowls made in front of customers.
Other new additions, include dividing the bakery into two sections to allow for better merchandising, increased self-checkout spaces, and a special “fine wine” room in the beer and wine section.
Construction is set to be completed by January, when the local team will begin stocking and training.
