Perkasie Borough Hosts Nation’s Oldest Christmas Tree Lighting

Perkasie Borough’s Christmas tree lighting has been a long-standing tradition, and on Saturday it also doubled as a food drive.

Perkasie Borough’s Christmas tree lighting has been a long-standing tradition since 1909, writes Kim Hudson for CBS News Philadelphia.  

This historical lighting is considered the oldest in the country and takes countless lights to spark the borough. Just for the front end of Santa’s bucket truck, it requires thousands of feet of lights.  

Each year, the annual event drives thousands of onlookers to revel in the luminescence of the festive splendor. For 2023, lifelong Perkasie resident and Mayor Jeff Hollenbach, expected to see 8,000 attendees on Saturday.  

For the event on Saturday, children could donate food to the Pennridge Fish Organization.
