Pennsbury School District Opts To Build New $250M High School Campus

The Pennsbury School District is opting to construct a new high school costing between $250 million and $277 million.

The Pennsbury School District has decided not to renovate the existing high school campus and instead construct a new site costing between $250 million and $277 million, depending on which features will be included, writes Greg Vellner for The Reporter.

The board approved new construction by an 8-1 vote and authorized the hiring of an architect who will work on the new building that is expected to open in the 2029 school year.

Board member Jim Propokiak voted against the project because he feared it would result in a tax increase that would be unaffordable for seniors and those on a fixed income.

“The costs are expensive and do have an impact,” he said.

According to the school district, over the next ten years, school taxes could raise to $2,051 on average, or around $205 a year increase due to the project.

Prior to the vote, the district discussed the cost and agreed to attempt and keep the price tag under $250 million because a voter referendum has to be held for a project at $300 million.
