New Pathway to Bachelor of Science in Nursing Comes to Penn State Abington
To provide high-quality, flexible educational experiences, Penn State Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing and Penn State Abington have partnered with Jersey College to provide a four-year degree pathway for students to earn a bachelor of science degree (B.S.N.) in nursing.
This nursing pathway allows students to take general education courses at Penn State Abington for one year before pursuing an associate degree in nursing at Jersey College over the course of two years. Students who have completed Jersey College’s program and have obtained their RN (registered nurse) license can then work toward their B.S.N. through the RN to B.S.N. program delivered by the Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing at Penn State Abington in an additional year.
“There is a critical need for qualified nurses in the greater Philadelphia area, and our institutions are delighted to offer pathways to such a valuable and in-demand profession. This program is designed to save our students time and money as they earn a degree from our accredited, respected institutions,” said Nicole Stokes, interim vice chancellor for Academic Affairs at Penn State Abington.
Credits for these programs are reviewed for seamless transfer between the colleges, located one mile apart in Abington and Jenkintown.
“Ensuring a smooth transition was paramount in the development of this pathway. Students will benefit from the stellar curriculum developed by nursing faculty without leaving the area,” said Mike Evans, assistant dean for undergraduate education at Penn State’s Commonwealth Campuses.
“Students on this pathway to a B.S.N. can be assured their educational journey will prepare them for providing quality health care while opening more career opportunities for their future.”
“Jersey College is thrilled to be a part of such a momentous opportunity. This innovative pathway supports our students and educates the future nursing workforce in southeastern Pennsylvania,” said Toni Castillo, campus director at Jersey College – Jenkintown.
