Following the tragic floods that swept Bucks County this summer, Pennsylvania’s government is taking action to mitigate the natural disasters, writes Damon C. Williams for the Bucks County Courier Times.

As a result, it led to the creation of the Flood Insurance Premium Assistance Task Force, which is designed to help property owners navigate through the flood insurance process.

Governor Josh Shapiro signed the bill, HB 735, into law last month, and signed the ceremonial bill this Monday at the Yardley Inn, an area that is prone to extreme flooding.

According to the administration, the task force’s objectives include boosting flood insurance uptake among homeowners, suggesting programs for discount incentives, encouraging local government involvement in flood mitigation, and pushing for necessary policy changes regarding insurance.

Shapiro and local officials will appoint the task force, which is set to present their recommendations in April.

Homeowners who are still coping with flooding damage can visit the Pennsylvania Insurance Department’s page on how to file a weather-related claim and sign up for flood insurance.

According to Michael Humphreys, the Pennsylvania Insurance Department Commissioner, less than one percent of all homeowners have flood insurance.
