Wonder Foods, a small Ukrainian and Eastern European grocery chain with locations in Warminster and Southampton is giving a helping hand to refugees from Ukraine, writes Andrea Mucino-Sanchez for the UNHCR.

Owner Vira Lyakh founded the store over a decade ago. A Ukrainian immigrant herself, she wanted to introduce Bucks County to rich Eastern European cuisine.

However, since the outbreak of the war, the grocery shop has taken on a different purpose.

“I realized that if I couldn’t assist in Ukraine due to my family being here, my mission should be to aid those who were forced to flee and needed help here,” said Lyakh.

Through word of mouth and social media, the store helped refugees transition into their new lives in the United States.

Lillia, a Wonder Foods employee and refugee from the Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast (region) of Ukraine says that she got tremendous support from her employer.

“I discovered a new Ukrainian community and made friends with whom I feel at ease,” she said.
