Wegmans Gets “Gritty” as Deal with Philadelphia Flyers Takes Flight
As Wegmans is set to open its second Bucks County location in Lower Makefield, the grocery chain is also cutting a deal with the Philadelphia Flyers, writes Ryan Sharrow in the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The grocery chain and the Flyers will create a program that gives local student-athletes access to healthy snacks.
Food & Fridges brings a refrigerator with these refreshments to a local school. The first participating school is Penn Wood High School in Lansdowne.
Last year, the Flyers launched the Flyers Recess program, which hosts a gameshow-style assembly for local kids to practice hockey skills with team-donated equipment. As part of the sponsorship deal, Wegmans will now become the presenting partner for the free program which has reached 16 schools in the region.
Wegmans is also planning on playing a role in the Flyers Charities’ Gritty 5K, an outdoor marathon where participants dress up as the beloved mascot and help raise money for local families impacted by cancer.
