Center City Retailer Boyds Celebrates 85 Years, and Four Generations of a Family Business
When celebrating more than 80 years of existence, not just any celebration will suffice, writes Jean E. Palmieri for Women’s Wear Daily.
For its 85th anniversary, the upscale Philadelphia-based retailer, Boyds, has created a new special and worked on developing several new products to commemorate the milestone.
Over its 85 years, the retail store has seen four generations of the Gushner family expand and evolve the brand from selling cigars and sundries to men’s shirts and is now known for getting involved with womenswear, as well.
The retailer was founded in 1938 by Alexander, Albert and Ben Gushner, Russian immigrants who left their homeland in search of a better life in the United States.
Today, the retailer is run by Kent Gushner, Alexander’s grandson, and his sons Alex and Andrew.
The anniversary has been utilized as a time to reflect on the journey that Gushner family has gone through.
“Every garment tailored, every customer served and every smile exchanged is filled with a sense of history and promise for the future,” said Kent Gushner.
Special anniversary windows and packaging will be featured both in stores and online, in addition to anniversary-themed shopping bags, cotton tote, stickers and ribbons.
